The generic problem addressed by this proposal is that good design of information systems and business processes (IS&BP) is considered difficult to teach. This problem is felt in the discipline at large, and has consequences for the professionalism of IS&BP-architects. In our opinion, causes can be identified in the lack of integration between business processes and information systems and in the informal nature of current design practice. Educational software can play an important role in many of the design skills required. The concrete problem addressed by this proposal is that existing design tools offer insufficient support for designing information systems and business processes. The research group IS&BP is experimenting with tools that produce error free functional specifications of information systems. This research project develops these prototypes further for use in learning situations of professionals in computer science. This affects not only design methods but learning practices as well, requiring new tools to learn, teach, and use these methods.
